The recently announced Strategic Plan Refresh includes among UC San Diego’s goals for the next decade, “High-impact research: enabling a collaborative culture of scholarship and discovery that extends the frontiers of knowledge and improves lives.” Building on the foundation laid over the past decade, we have been collecting input into the research themes that will focus our work going forward. We invite you now to two activities related to that goal.
Webinar: Pathways to Research Leadership, April 9, 9 - 10 a.m.
One priority for strengthening our research is assisting UC San Diego researchers in developing the skills required to lead large-scale collaborative projects. With that in mind, join us for a webinar to learn about various pathways colleagues have followed to their research leadership roles.
Moderated by Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Corinne Peek-Asa, the webinar will feature an esteemed panel to discuss their leadership journeys and lessons learned:
- Christina Chambers, professor of pediatrics and vice chair of clinical research for the Department of Pediatrics
- Marty Ralph, synoptic and mesoscale research meteorologist and director of the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes
- Michael Sailor, nanotechnology researcher and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry
- Barna Saha, theoretical computer scientist and director of the National National Science Foundation Institute for Emerging CORE Methods in Data Science (EnCORE)
In-Person Brainstorming Session: April 9, 4 - 6 p.m.
Join us to begin a discussion about how we can most effectively pursue the research goals laid out in the Strategic Plan Refresh, building on current strengths and pursuing new opportunities across research in all disciplines. The discussion will be interactive, regarding our research themes, areas for strategic focus, and an opportunity for you to share input into various ways UC San Diego can best focus our efforts in the decade ahead.
All researchers and research staff are welcome to join us. Appetizers and beverages will be served at this in-person opportunity to brainstorm and network with colleagues. Onsite location will be confirmed soon.
