UC San Diego is at the forefront of developing and utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance human health, address climate change, advance scientific discovery, transform the patient experience, improve workflow and better society. As a leading public research university, UC San Diego’s faculty, scientists, researchers and staff are committed to developing AI innovations that prioritize equitable access, community-centered development and ethical use. Moreover, as one of the nation’s leading academic medical systems, the AI tools developed at UC San Diego are rapidly integrated into clinical care settings, ensuring that cutting-edge technology is quickly applied to improve patient outcomes.
As part of our AI leadership, UC San Diego has developed TritonGPT, a specialized AI information and resource assistant. You are receiving this message because you will soon gain access to this tool. In collaboration with Operational Strategic Initiatives (OSI), Information Technology Services (IT Services) has been working diligently to bring the TritonGPT initiative to life, supported by funding from the Office of the Chancellor. This exciting experiment is still under development and began its pilot in Fall 2023. The phased rollout of TritonGPT will continue during the months of March, April and May as the system will be made available in waves. Our goal is to have TritonGPT available for all Campus and Health Sciences employees by Spring 2024.
What is TritonGPT?
TritonGPT is UC San Diego’s generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) platform, an advanced language model designed to assist UC San Diego employees with tasks and university-specific questions. TritonGPT is designed to provide information and resources related to campus services, academic programs, research support, campus life, policies and procedures.
TritonGPT is hosted on premise in the San Diego Supercomputer Center, ensuring that our data is secure and controlled.
TritonGPT Access
Over the next few weeks, you will receive an email with a login link inviting you to access TritonGPT, if you have not already received one.
As with similar GenAI platforms, TritonGPT strives to provide accurate and helpful information, but may occasionally provide incomplete or inaccurate answers. Please verify responses from TritonGPT just as you would with other AI tools or internet searches.
We are continuing to improve TritonGPT's accuracy and utility, and your feedback and input will only help us enhance the tool over time. Feedback may be submitted using the “Thumbs up” and “Thumbs down” feature in TritonGPT, as well through the comment box within the tool.
TritonGPT Training Modules
Everyone receiving access is strongly encouraged to take the AI Essentials Training Modules before using TritonGPT, as the modules provide guidance on the tool’s functionality. The training links and dates are available on TritonGPT’s Blink page.
- AI Essentials at UCSD Module 1 – A 30-minute training that covers the foundational Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts, UC policies regarding usage of AI tools, and opportunities for application in Higher Education.
- AI Essentials at UCSD Module 2 – A training that showcases TritonGPT functionality and provides guidance on how, when, and why to use TritonGPT. Module 2 will be available asynchronously and Virtual-Instructor-Led.
I am excited for our campus to embark on this new experiment in our generative AI journey and anticipate that TritonGPT will greatly benefit our campus community. I look forward to your participation in TritonGPT and feedback as we navigate this emerging space together.
