We are pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural Student Centeredness Award, a recognition initiative designed to celebrate individuals who exemplify unwavering dedication to UC San Diego’s students.
As Tritons, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student feels valued, supported and empowered to thrive. The Student Centeredness Award will honor those who go above and beyond to put students first, innovate in their approaches, and champion diversity, equity and inclusion across our campus.
Awarded by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life, Associated Students and the Graduate and Professional Student Association, the award seeks to highlight the transformative actions that advance student success and inclusivity in all aspects of university life, in alignment with UC San Diego's vision to be a destination public university that is student centered, research driven, patient dedicated and service oriented.
Nomination Period to Open May 1
Nominations for the Student Centeredness Award will open on May 1, 2024.
We encourage all currently affiliated members of the UC San Diego community to consider nominating individuals who embody student centeredness and contribute to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
Award Criteria
The criteria for the UC San Diego Student Centeredness Award include:
- Student Empowerment and Advocacy
Honoring those who actively engage with and amplify student voices, advocating for their needs and success.
- Innovative Student Support
Acknowledging individuals who develop and implement inclusive teaching strategies or innovative programs or support systems that contribute to the holistic success of students.
- Intersectional Inclusivity
Celebrating those who demonstrate a commitment to centering intersectional identities within the Triton community, thus fostering an environment of belonging for everyone and ensuring all students feel welcomed and valued in the learning environment.
Eligibility
All currently active UC San Diego community members are eligible for the award, including (but not limited to): students, employees, academics, visiting graduates or scholars, alumni, and departments/organizational units.
Award Timeline
- May 1, 2024 – May 29, 2024: Nomination Period Open
- June 1, 2024 – June 30, 2024: Nominations Reviewed by Committee
- October 2024: Winners Announced
The inaugural Student Centeredness Awards will be presented at the Student Affairs and Campus Life Fall All-Staff Meeting in October 2024.
