Tritons Belong: Peacemaking in Higher Education, Trauma Informed Care, and The Longest Table
| |
The primary goal of our Tritons Belong series is to enhance understanding and compassion. As our campus continues to be impacted by conflict in the Middle East, UC San Diego encourages our campus community to engage in conversation, learning, and making connections as reflected in our Principles of Community.
Two upcoming online learning opportunities through the Tritons Belong series are available for registration through links below:
Tritons Belong: Peacemaking in Higher Education, presented by Karen Biestman Thursday, May 9, 2024 | 9 to 10 a.m. Peacemaking is an Indigenous framework to address harm and conflict resolution. It is community-centered and values-based with a focus on healing and restoring relationships between parties in disagreement and others who are impacted.
Tritons Belong: Trauma-Informed Care, presented by Marianne Frapwell Tuesday, May 21, 2024 | 1 to 2 p.m. Trauma-informed care is about recognizing the widespread impact of trauma and how it affects the ways we show up in our communities, with each other, and to ourselves. Understanding how trauma shapes our individual and collective lives can give us tools to support healing in our everyday interactions, by building trust and offering opportunities for empowerment.
Closed captioning, American Sign Language, and simultaneous Spanish interpretation services will be provided. These online events will be recorded and posted online following the event dates.
The Longest Table Tuesday, May 21, 2024 | 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. Taking place during Mental Health Awareness Month, The Longest Table at UC San Diego is just that – a 300-foot-long table that will span the length of Library Walk – with the goal of building community and a sense of belonging. All Tritons are invited to share a multicultural meal at the communal table while enjoying a variety of live entertainment, activities, and engaging conversation. Registration is not required for this event.
Created in response to the current experiences and concerns that arose following October 7, 2023, the efforts of Tritons Belong focus on Understanding and Compassion in Challenging Times. UC San Diego has engaged in efforts to address Antisemitism, Islamophobia, free speech, and navigating difficult conversations through the Tritons Belong series. You may review recordings of these online educational events here: https://diversity.ucsd.edu/edi-resources/tritons-belong-events.html
As you learn more about the issues, consider having thoughtful conversations with others, and also reflecting on your individual and collective actions in extending compassion during these challenging times. If you need support, we encourage you to seek it through the resources available at UC San Diego to students, faculty, and staff through our Support Services and Resources.
