Project Purpose: The La Jolla Medical Campus Loop Road project is set to begin in June of 2024 and will consist of a strategic realignment and widening of Health Sciences Drive, Medical Center Drive, and surrounding areas to improve access, safety, and wayfinding. New road realignments will simplify patient and visitor wayfinding by strengthening a singular, flowing path towards the hospital and clinical services, while also reducing decision points. Along with creating a more direct and intuitive path of travel, travel times will be reduced with the addition of interconnected traffic signals to patient-centered facilities, such as the Jacobs Medical Center and Emergency Department.
Location and Duration
Immediate Impacts: Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrians
- The east side of Parking Lot P760 will be fenced off to allow for utility and grading work.
- The parking lot will be restriped to maintain vehicular flow.
- This work effort will require single-lane impacts, weeknights on Medical Center Drive (east of the Campus Point Drive intersection).
- Two-way traffic will be maintained in a single lane which will be controlled by flaggers.
- Nightly pedestrian detours will be required around the southern sidewalk on Medical Center Drive (in front of the Shiley Eye Center).
- This sidewalk will be open and available for use daily.
For everyone's safety, please adhere to traffic control signage directions and flag personnel instructions while traveling through the area.
