Dear Colleagues:
The fifth Representative Assembly meeting of the 2023-24 academic year is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held via Zoom. Representative Assembly members will receive the Zoom link directly. If you are a Senate member who is not an Assembly Representative and you would like to attend the meeting, please RSVP to the Academic Senate Office at academicsenateoffice@ucsd.edu to obtain the login instructions. All Senate members are welcome to attend.
The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents are available on the following webpages.
- On the Senate’s homepage under Assembly/Council Meetings, on the lower right side of the page. http://senate.ucsd.edu
- On the Representative Assembly-Schedule page.
http://senate.ucsd.edu/committees/representative-assembly/schedule
Although the meeting will start at 3:30, we ask meeting participants to begin logging in at 3:00 to allow time for each participant to be admitted into the meeting. We also ask that your Zoom name match your real name, so that you may be identified.
The June 4 meeting is focused on proposals related to Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla’s actions on May 6, 2024, to remove the encampment of protesters. Senate Council approved a proposal to put four questions on Chancellor Khosla’s actions to an electronic ballot of the full San Diego Divisional Senate and the following five resolutions were submitted by Senate faculty for the Representative Assembly agenda:
- Resolution: Vote of Confidence in Chancellor Khosla
- Resolution: Campus Healing and Improved Response to Future Civil
Disobedience
- Resolution: Political and Social Action at UC San Diego
- Resolution: Vote of No Confidence in Chancellor Khosla
- Resolution: Censure Chancellor Khosla
Senate colleagues have a broad range of views on the May 6 events as evidenced by the range of proposals brought forward. Attendance may be higher than previous meetings this year and I hope we all try to approach this meeting with civility and grace. To help the meeting go smoothly, as well as promote transparency and encourage full participation to the greatest extent possible, we will be providing a meeting guide by May 31 to meeting attendees and we will also post it to the Senate website on the Representative Assembly-Schedule page. The guide will include information about parliamentary procedure, procedural motions, and how to join the speaker queue before or during the meeting.
Only Representative Assembly members may vote. Primary Representatives and Alternate Representatives should coordinate their attendance and voting for this meeting. Both may attend; however, Alternate Representatives may only vote in the absence of the Primary Representative. Please coordinate who will attend and cast votes, in advance of the meeting.
An additional Representative Assembly meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Zoom for Senate business submitted by standing committees and faculties that requires Representative Assembly approval. A separate meeting notice with the June 11 agenda will be distributed later. We are deeply grateful for your service to Representative Assembly this year.
Sincerely,
