Special Representative Assembly Meetings – June 5 & June 6

Dear Colleagues:

Due to the length of the June 4, 2024 Representative Assembly agenda and the importance of the items under consideration, two special Representative Assembly meetings are being scheduled to continue discussion of items on the published June 4, 2024 meeting agenda. As noted in the call for the June 4 meeting, the agenda includes six proposals related to Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla’s actions regarding use of outside police to remove the encampment of protesters. While we hope to get through the agenda on June 4, we also need to ensure that there is sufficient time to listen to all our Senate colleagues and thoughtfully discuss the proposals put forward for consideration. We kindly ask Representative Assembly members to make available this additional time.

The special meetings are scheduled for:
  • June 5, 2024, 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • June 6, 2024, 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be held via Zoom. Representative Assembly members will receive the Zoom link for each meeting directly. If you are a Senate member who is not an Assembly Representative and you would like to attend the meetings, please RSVP to the Academic Senate Office at academicsenateoffice@ucsd.edu to obtain the login instructions. All Senate members are welcome to attend both special meetings.

The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents for both meetings are available on the following webpages.
  1. On the Senate’s homepage under Assembly/Council Meetings, on the lower right side of the page.  http://senate.ucsd.edu
  2. On the Representative Assembly-Schedule page.
    http://senate.ucsd.edu/committees/representative-assembly/schedule
Although the meetings will start at 3:30, we ask meeting participants to begin logging in at 3:00 to allow time for each participant to be admitted into the meeting. We also ask that your Zoom name match your real name, so that you may be identified.

Only Representative Assembly members may vote. Primary Representatives and Alternate Representatives should coordinate their attendance and voting for these meetings. Both may attend; however, Alternate Representatives may only vote in the absence of the Primary Representative. Please coordinate who will attend and cast votes, in advance of the meeting.

Finally, as noted in yesterday’s call, an additional Representative Assembly meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Zoom for Senate business submitted by standing committees and faculties that requires Representative Assembly approval.

Thank you all for your dedication to shared governance and for taking the extra time at the end of the academic year to attend Representative Assembly meetings.

Sincerely,
John A. Hildebrand
