It is with great pleasure that I announce that Judy Kim will serve as Interim Dean of the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs upon Dean Jim Antony’s departure at the end of June to serve as Provost at George Mason University.
Kim has served as Senior Associate Dean since 2021, and was appointed Associate Dean in 2018. During her tenure in the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs, she has been integral in supporting the academic journey and professional development of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. She will continue in the role while a formal search for a new Dean for the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs can be conducted in the new academic year.
In addition to her work in the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs, Kim, who came to UC San Diego in 2005, is also a Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, where her research focuses on spectroscopic studies of proteins. She is an active member of the scientific community, with leadership roles in the American Chemical Society, Telluride Science and various editorial boards.
Please join me in extending a hearty thanks to Judy Kim for agreeing to serve in this interim role. I am confident she will serve the UC San Diego community with dedication and distinction.
