Dear Colleagues:
The San Diego Division of the Academic Senate is conducting a mail (electronic) ballot vote on five proposals that were considered at the June 4, 5, and 6 Representative Assembly meetings. Representative Assembly approved sending these five measures for a vote of the entire membership of the San Diego Divisional Senate.
The five measures are:
- Senate Council proposal to conduct a vote of the entire membership of the San Diego Division on the each of the following four questions:
- Should Chancellor Khosla have authorized the use of an outside police force to remove the encampment?
- Do the actions of Chancellor Khosla merit confidence in his ability to continue as UC San Diego Chancellor?
- Do the actions of Chancellor Khosla merit no confidence which means he should be removed as the UC San Diego Chancellor?
- Do the actions of Chancellor Khosla merit censure?
- Resolution: Vote of Confidence in Chancellor Khosla
- Resolution: Vote of No Confidence in Chancellor Khosla
- Resolution: Censure Chancellor Khosla
- Resolution: Campus Healing and Improved Response to Future Civil Disobedience
Supplemental Materials
Representative Assembly approved sending all five of the measures to a vote of the full Division to allow each member an opportunity to state whether they are for or against each one. San Diego Divisional Senate members are asked to consider them separately and vote on each one. It may seem confusing that there is overlap in terms of the questions being asked. We encourage you to review the supplemental materials provided before voting to become familiar with the contents of each measure. The information is provided to help you decide what a “yes” or “no” vote means to you.
Voting Deadline
The San Diego Division will continue voting until 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024, which is the deadline for all votes to be cast. At the conclusion of the voting period, the Divisional Senate will announce the voting results in an email to the members of the San Diego Division and the results will be transmitted to the systemwide Academic Senate.
Confidentiality
The voting system will authenticate your identity via the campus Single Sign-On system and is designed to maintain the confidentiality of the voting process by keeping track of who has voted, but not how each member votes. Once the ballot is submitted, neither the voter nor anyone else can change the votes. To minimize technical difficulties while completing the voting ballot, please refrain from using your browser’s forward and backward buttons. Instead, use the “previous” and “next” buttons provided on the ballot form to navigate between screens.
We know your time is valuable and we appreciate your consideration of these important matters. Thank you for voting. We hope that the outcome helps clarify where we, as the Divisional Senate, stand and guides how we move forward.
