Dear Colleagues:
The mail (electronic) ballot vote on five proposals that were considered at the June 4, 5, and 6 Representative Assembly meetings concluded on Tuesday, June 18. Representative Assembly had approved sending these five measures for a vote of the entire membership of the San Diego Divisional Senate. Overall, the number of valid ballots cast was 1527, which represents a 56.37% turnout of the current Senate membership. The voting results for each measure are as follows:
- Senate Council proposal to conduct a vote of the entire membership of the San Diego Division on each of the following four questions:
- Should Chancellor Khosla have authorized the use of an outside police force to remove the encampment?
The measure passed; 786 ‘Yes’ votes were cast; 569 ‘No’ votes were cast; 170 voters abstained.
- Do the actions of Chancellor Khosla merit confidence in his ability to continue as the UC San Diego Chancellor?
The measure passed; 915 ‘Yes’ votes were cast; 507 ‘No’ votes were cast; 104 voters abstained.
- Do the actions of Chancellor Khosla merit no confidence which means he should be removed as the UC San Diego Chancellor?
The measure did not pass; 384 ‘Yes’ votes were cast; 1052 ‘No’ votes were cast; 90 voters abstained.
- Do the actions of Chancellor Khosla merit censure?
The measure did not pass; 525 ‘Yes’ votes were cast; 931 ‘No’ votes were cast; 70 voters abstained.
- Resolution: Vote of Confidence in Chancellor Khosla
The measure passed; 862 votes were cast in favor; 545 votes were cast in opposition; 119 voters abstained.
- Resolution: Vote of No Confidence in Chancellor Khosla
The measure did not pass; 412 votes were cast in favor; 1007 votes were cast in opposition; 106 voters abstained.
- Resolution: Censure Chancellor Khosla
The measure did not pass; 518 votes were cast in favor; 933 votes were cast in opposition; 75 voters abstained.
- Resolution: Campus Healing and Improved Response to Future Civil Disobedience
The measure passed; 797 votes were cast in favor; 549 votes were cast in opposition; 180 voters abstained.
As a reminder, the voting system authenticated each voter’s identity via the campus Single Sign-On system but maintained the confidentiality of the voting process. That is, it kept track of who voted, but not how each member voted.
