Review and Comment on UC San Diego’s Six Refreshed Research Themes

On January 24, the Chancellor launched an exercise to refresh the university's strategic plan.

We now present these refreshed themes for your consideration and feedback before moving forward in the planning process.

There are six refreshed research themes:

  1. Understanding and preserving the planet
  2. Enriching life and society
  3. Exploring the basis of human knowledge, learning, and creativity
  4. Understanding cultures and addressing disparities in society
  5. Advancing foundational research
  6. Understanding, shaping, and embracing the technological society

Please use this short survey to respond to as many themes as you would like. There will be additional space at the end to provide overarching comments on the refreshed research themes.

Since announcing the Strategic Plan Refresh, the campus community has been called upon to provide feedback on the current research themes guiding University-wide research priorities. The Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation have utilized the significant feedback collected from events, discussions, surveys and more to develop the refreshed themes above to fit UC San Diego's priorities for the next decade.

Review Chancellor Khosla's video call to action for the strategic plan refresh and learn more about the plan's mission, vision, and timeline.

If you have questions about the process, you can email vcri-initiatives@ucsd.edu. The survey will close on July  31.
