Parking Updates and Rates 2024–2025 |
Parking rates for UC San Diego and UC San Diego Health will change effective July 31, 2024. This change is necessary to address increased staffing and supplier costs while continuing our investment in parking facility renewal and expansion. This year, we opened 1,800 new parking spots on our Hillcrest campus and by fall 2024, we will open more than 1,100 new structured parking stalls in the Theatre District, all of which include parking occupancy sensor and guidance systems, enhanced security bicycle parking and other safety/security features.
To learn more about permit rates, visit the Transportation Services website. Campus visitors will also contribute to these expansions as hourly parking rates will increase proportionally.
Also, effective July 31, 2024, we will be implementing several parking rule changes to support campus public engagement goals and improve short-term access to parking facilities. The modifications to permit upgrade access include:
|
-
Commuter parking permits will no longer upgrade to allow parking in Visitor (V) spaces during evenings and weekends. This change aims to keep Visitor spaces available for guests and to help ensure that the whole community can participate in campus activities and cultural offerings.
-
Commuter parking permits will not upgrade to allow parking in A spaces until after 5 p.m. on weekdays. This adjustment ensures that A spaces remain available for their intended users during peak hours, supporting efficient use of parking resources.
-
All undergraduate Student Residents are ineligible for campus parking permits and must obtain a waiver from the Parking and Commuter Services office if they wish to purchase a permit to park a vehicle on campus.
|
Beginning September 1, 2024, Individual Official Business supplements will be discontinued. Two-hour Official Business supplements for shared use will be available to departments for an annual charge.
These changes are designed to ensure better access and availability of parking for all users. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work towards enhancing our campus parking system.
All Tritons are invited to save money and reduce environmental impact from commuting through our low-cost or no-cost commute options. Visit our website to learn more about affordable and lower-impact transportation products tailored for:

For faculty and staff who want to transition from driving and parking to riding transit, the VC-50 for Transit Pilot Program offers substantial savings. Eligible faculty and staff can receive a free bus and trolley pass for three months and a reduced cost of just $27 per month thereafter (in contrast to the MTS $72 retail rate). Savings are also available for COASTER riders.
For undergraduate and graduate students who want to make the same transition, the Triton U-Pass program grants fare-free, unlimited access to regional MTS and NCTD bus and trolley/light rail routes for the fall, winter and spring academic quarters. During summer 2024, the Summer U-Pass offers new graduates, along with new and continuing students, the same unlimited right to ride pass at a 25% discount from the MTS retail rate.
Thank you for your continued support.
