Important Changes to the Mortgage Origination Program (MOP)
|
Dear Colleagues,
The Mortgage Origination Program (MOP) is an essential component of faculty recruitment at UC San Diego. We recognize how valuable this program is and that for many faculty it provides the opportunity to purchase a home, establish themselves in the region and flourish at UC San Diego. It is for these reasons we are disappointed in the news we have to share regarding this program.
We have just been notified that, due to ongoing budget pressures, the Office of the President has made immediate and substantial changes to the program that will reduce the number of requests the campus can approve. As a result, effective immediately, we are forced to temporarily pause all new applications and processing for the rest of the 2024 calendar year so that we can determine the best path forward for a sustainable MOP program within the new financial constraints.
A few important points to note:
|
- If you already bought a home using MOP, you are not impacted by this in any way.
- If your application has been submitted and approved but you have not completed the home loan purchase process, please contact your Home Loan Coordinator to discuss the status of your loan.
- If your application has already been submitted but not yet approved, it will be kept on file until we have determined the new path forward.
- If you were planning on applying for MOP, we are hopeful we will be able to re-open a revised application process in 2025.
|
Those with specific questions related to their potential MOP eligibility should contact Carlos Hernandez, Home Loan Coordinator/Fiscal Analyst at cah005@ucsd.edu
We appreciate that this is difficult news to hear. Please know that we understand how beneficial this program is and are doing our utmost to develop a sustainable and transparent process to bring MOP applications back as soon as possible. We will continue to provide updated information about the MOP program as matters evolve.
Sincerely,
|
