We are pleased to announce the reappointment of K. Wayne Yang as Provost of John Muir College following a positive administrative review and a unanimous recommendation of reappointment by the review committee.
In addition to his provost role, Yang holds a faculty appointment in the Ethnic Studies Department, specializing in youth culture and pedagogy in the emergence of social movements. He is regarded as a campus leader in promoting Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). The review committee noted that “he has transformed Muir College into one deeply rooted in environmental and social justice, EDI, and having an intentionally anti-racist culture.”
The committee also praised Provost Yang's thoughtful leadership, inclusivity, and open-mindedness, even during challenges such as funding constraints and pandemic-related disruptions. Additionally, Provost Yang expanded the Environmental Studies minor with an emphasis on environmental and social justice and grew the number of course offerings.
Please join us in recognizing Provost Yang’s many accomplishments and continued service to UC San DIego. We look forward to his transformative leadership and commitment to both John Muir College and the greater UC San Diego community.
