With congratulations for a laudable tenure of service to UC San Diego, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel Cynthia Palmer will be retiring from her role effective March 31, 2025.
During her nearly 10-years at UC San Diego, Cindy was responsible for managing Academic Personnel Services, which includes Academic Advancement and Compensation, Academic Policy Development, Academic Data & Compensation Initiatives, Academic Employee & Labor Relations and the Office of Academic Recruitment. She also served as a trusted adviser to campus leadership on academic personnel issues, and brought an in-depth knowledge of academic personnel policies and procedures, as well as a thorough understanding of the complexities of shared governance to our campus from her previous experience in the UC system.
Cindy joined UC San Diego in June 2015 after serving as Chief Administrative Officer and Executive Director of the Academic Senate at UC Riverside. Prior to that role, she worked for seven years as a principal senate analyst and also served as principal personnel analyst in the office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at UC Riverside.
During her tenure, Cindy helped support and guide UC San Diego’s academic personnel-related functions and services, and recently implemented the Administrative Transparency Dashboards to assist employees in tracking personnel promotion and tenure processes in a more streamlined manner.
We have been extremely fortunate to have Cindy’s leadership and expertise in this role. Please join us in thanking Cindy for her service to UC San Diego and wish her the best in her well-deserved retirement. A search will begin shortly for a new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel.
