UC San Diego Celebrates Latinx Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationally from September 15 to October 15 to honor the heritage, history and cultural diversity of Latinx individuals. This period was chosen to coincide with the independence of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Chile. Each year, the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers leads the process of selecting the annual theme, which is adopted by institutions nationwide. This year’s national theme is Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together. The theme recognizes those who came before us to create opportunities for future generations and those who continue to initiate and enact positive change. At UC San Diego, the month-long celebration is called Latinx Heritage Month (LHM).

Throughout October, the UC San Diego community is invited to participate in vibrant events in observance of LHM. This annual celebration aims to showcase the intersectionalities of Latinx people and Latinx culture and build community among students, faculty and staff.
