All Senate Welcome Fall 2024

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to a new academic year! We are delighted to connect with you and look forward to a beautiful year of sharing and learning together.

As your Senate Chair and Vice Chair, it is our privilege to represent the interests of the faculty, both within the Senate and by taking the Senate’s concerns and advice to the Administration. Feel free to contact us at senatechair@ucsd.edu and senatevicechair@ucsd.edu at any time. We are available to listen and look forward to serving with humility and joy.

Below are a few opportunities to connect with us during the year:

Representative Assembly. All Senate members are invited to attend Representative Assembly meetings. Typically, the Chancellor or the Executive Vice Chancellor address the Assembly and provide updates to the faculty on current topics of interest. Also, new graduate degree programs and modifications to Divisional Senate bylaws and regulations, which govern Senate operations and the curriculum, are presented for a vote by the Assembly.

Attending Representative Assembly meetings is a great way to stay informed and to participate in the UC San Diego educational community. This year, all meetings will be held in person on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on the dates below. Meeting agendas with the meeting location will be posted on the Senate’s website five instructional days before each meeting.

Quarterly Lunches with the Senate Chair and Vice Chair. We will be hosting a quarterly lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Faculty Club. Our first lunch is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30. Please visit the Senate website to sign up. It would be great to share lunch with you.
Coffee Chats with the Senate Chair and Vice Chair. We will be hosting informal chats with Senate faculty at the Academic Senate Office (third floor of Center Hall, Room 315) twice per quarter. Fall quarter dates are Tuesday, October 22, and Wednesday, December 11, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Please visit the Senate website to sign up. It would be wonderful to connect and hear of your successes and concerns. We will have donuts and coffee!
Faculty Club Happy Hours. In addition to the above events, we also plan to participate in the Faculty Club Happy Hours from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. once per quarter. The fall date is Thursday, November 21. No sign up is required. Just show up and join the celebration!

Future quarterly events will be shared at the beginning of the Winter and Spring quarters.
