After a decade of exceptional service to the university, Vice Chancellor and CFO Pierre Ouillet will be leaving UC San Diego to join The J. Paul Getty Trust as Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations.
During the past 10 years, Vice Chancellor Ouillet has been instrumental in driving the incredible trajectory of the campus, working closely with me and the Cabinet. During that time, campus revenues almost tripled to now exceed $9 billion. As CFO, Ouillet delivered a balanced budget through a strong operating discipline while finding creative ways to support our investments in student success, research excellence and outstanding clinical care.
Ouillet was committed to student success and the ongoing transformation of our campus as a destination for students, faculty, staff and the community. During his tenure, the campus added nearly 10,000 beds in mixed used living and learning communities. He was dedicated to campus activation, bringing retail and local food operators to better serve the needs of our community. He initiated our first investment in university housing for faculty and staff and completed strategic land acquisitions that will serve the university well in the future. He was committed to taking full advantage of the rapid transit line to the campus by opening our first downtown location on Park and Market.
Ouillet also supported our health enterprise. He took additional responsibilities as CFO of Health Sciences to put our professional schools on a sustainable financial path, working closely with UC San Diego Health CEO Patty Maysent and our health system. This partnership brought the campus and the health system together in transformative initiatives, from the renewal of our Hillcrest campus to the superb management of the COVID pandemic by leveraging the incredible talent and creativity of our researchers and clinicians.
Ouillet served as interim CHRO for a year and developed comprehensive talent strategies to support our staff and help our institution. His principled, ethical and compassionate approach to issues and his ability to work across portfolios, with Senate, student and community leaders has reinforced our proud culture of collegiality.
Please join me in expressing sincere gratitude to VC Ouillet for his remarkable contributions to our university and in wishing the best in his new journey with the Getty.
An interim appointee will be named shortly, and a national search for the next vice chancellor and CFO will be announced in the coming months.
