TWOW 2024: Welcoming New Tritons and Planning for Move-In Days |
We’re under a week away from the start of Triton Weeks of Welcome (TWOW), our campus-wide series of introductory activities, special programs, and signature events at the start of each academic year – designed to engage, inform, and welcome all students to the Triton community. TWOW enhances the student experience at UC San Diego, supporting a sense of belonging, social connection, and introducing students to programs and services designed to enhance their learning, personal development and build a shared sense of community.
This year, TWOW programming will take place from Sept. 9 - Oct. 8, 2024.
Many of the traditions that make Triton Weeks of Welcome special have been a part of the new student experience at UC San Diego for decades, while others reflect our community’s continued evolution and innovation. Like last year, many TWOW programs will include options for new Tritons with children and families.

New for 2024: Words of Welcome
|
This year marks the debut of Words of Welcome at UC San Diego – a unique initiative designed to inspire, ignite curiosity, and unite our Triton community by celebrating our shared strength and diversity.
As part of Words of Welcome’s Common Read initiative, we've selected a book for the Triton community to read, listen to, or watch together, centered around a common theme. The aim is to inspire a shared campus-wide experience throughout the coming year. Visit WordsofWelcome.ucsd.edu to explore this year’s Common Read selection and discover how you can join the conversation.
In addition to the Common Read initiative, a Faculty-New Student Picnic is also planned for September 24 to give faculty the opportunity to welcome and socialize with our new students in a more casual environment conducive to authentic conversations.

Planning for Move-In Activities
|
With thousands of new Tritons arriving on campus and participating in large-scale events during TWOW, there will be minor impacts to transportation and parking on the west side of campus – especially from Wednesday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 22. If you are able, please connect with your supervisor/people leader to discuss remote work possibilities on these dates.
Road Closures: Scholars Drive - Sept. 18-22
|
-
During Residential Move-In from Sept. 18-22, Scholars Drive South will become a one-way road for northbound only traffic beginning at the intersection of Scholars Drive South and Scholars Lane, then ending at the intersection of Scholars Drive South and Exploration Drive.
- Scholars Drive North will become a one-way road for southbound only traffic between the intersections of Scholars Drive North and North Point Drive and Scholars Drive North and Pangea Drive.
- There will be an additional section of northbound one-way traffic on Scholars Drive South between Theatre District Drive and the north entrance/exit to the Theatre District Living and Learning Neighborhood parking structure.

Thank you for all that you do to support all students, particularly those who are new to our community this fall. We look forward to seeing you as UC San Diego welcomes its newest Tritons during TWOW.
Sincerely,
