We are pleased to announce the Learning Sustainable Well-Being (LSW) program, a series of 1-unit, P/NP undergraduate courses (taught within one’s home department), aimed at educating students on how to improve their well-being. These experiential courses contribute to UC San Diego’s undergraduate mission by transforming the way preventative mental health can be accessed by students.
We are inviting ladder-rank or teaching faculty to express interest in teaching in the pilot course offering of the LSW program, “Compassion for Self and Others,” during the 2025-26 academic year, with training during summer 2025. This course was developed and tested in the UC San Diego Department of Psychology (see Frontiers 2023 article). It creates a unique classroom environment by teaching students the skills they need to improve their relationships with themselves and others through a combination of lectures, discussion and experiential exercises in a supportive class setting.
Requirements: Academic Senate faculty selected to teach the course must participate in a five-day training workshop in summer 2025 and commit to teaching the course twice during the 2025-26 academic year.
Compensation: Faculty will receive $3,500 in summer salary to attend the summer training and $1,500 in research funds for each offering of the course.
Learn More: To learn more about this one-year LSW pilot program, as well as obtaining further details regarding requirements for teaching in the program, please visit the Details for Professors information page.
