Annual Campus Lighting and Safety Review Walks 

Share Your Lighting and Safety Concerns 

For more than 20 years, Facilities Management, Environment, Health & Safety, and the UC San Diego Police Department have partnered with the campus to conduct annual Campus Lighting and Safety Review Walks. These walks aim to cover the entire campus footprint and assess safety and lighting issues that can be improved to create a safer environment for our community.

This year, the Lighting and Safety Review Walks will occur every Thursday night in February (Feb 6, 13, 20 and 27) beginning at 6 p.m., lasting about two hours each night. This schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions; check the Outdoor Lighting Safety webpage for the current schedule. Walks will cover these campus areas:

  • February 6 – Main campus buildings, including School of Medicine  
  • February 13 – Residential housing on the main campus  
  • February 20 – Coast, Mesa, One Miramar St., La Jolla Del Sol, Mesa Nueva and Nuevo East and West  
  • February 27 – Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Anyone on campus can participate! Past representatives included staff and students from Associated Students, Graduate & Professional Student Association, CARE at SARC, EH&S, UCPD, Residential, Retail & Supply Chain Services (RRSS), Transportation Services, Facilities Management, Residential Life, Campus Planning and The Library, among several others.

If you notice any lighting or safety concerns on campus, you can share them anytime in one of three ways:

  1. Call the Facilities Management Customer Relations help desk at (858) 534-2930 
  2. Submit an online work request to Facilities Management 
  3. Email the information to campuslightingconcerns@ucsd.edu
