UC San Diego students will vote on the Student Transportation Fee Referendum, impacting the future of the Triton U-Pass, between January 27, 2025 at 10 a.m. PST and 4 p.m. PST on January 31, 2025. Authorization for the Student Transportation Fee (U-Pass Fee) expires following spring quarter, meaning that the U-Pass program will expire if voting falls short of the 20% participation required or if voting meets the participation requirement yet fails to reach majority (50%+1) support.
Pass or fail, this referendum will significantly impact the experience of all UC San Diego commuters, including faculty and staff. Faculty and student-facing staff are encouraged to make note of the opportunity for students to vote and encourage student participation in the referendum process.
If passed, this referendum will both continue unlimited San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) bus and trolley access for all fee- paying graduate and undergraduate students and add additional services and program enhancements, including:
