Winter 2025 Academic Senate Events

Dear Colleagues,

As your Senate Chair and Vice Chair, it is our privilege to represent the interests of the faculty, both within the Senate and by taking the Senate’s concerns and advice to the Administration. Feel free to contact us at senatechair@ucsd.edu and senatevicechair@ucsd.edu at any time. We are available to listen and greatly appreciate this opportunity to serve the faculty this year.

Below are some upcoming occasions to connect with us this quarter:

  • Representative Assembly. All Senate members are invited to attend Representative Assembly meetings. It is a great way to stay informed and to participate in the UC San Diego educational community. The next meeting is on Tuesday, January 14 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Liebow Auditorium of the Biomedical Sciences Building (2nd Floor).
  • Quarterly Lunches with the Senate Chair and Vice Chair. The Winter quarter lunch at the Faculty Club is scheduled for Wednesday, February 5 from noon to 1:00 p.m. Please visit the Senate website to sign up. It would be great to share lunch with you.
  • Coffee Chats with the Senate Chair and Vice Chair. We are hosting an informal chat at the Academic Senate Office (third floor of Center Hall, Room 315) on Thursday, February 27 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Please visit the Senate website to sign up. It would be wonderful to connect and hear of your successes and concerns. We will have donuts and coffee!
  • Faculty Club Happy Hours. We plan to participate in the Faculty Club Happy Hour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 23. No sign up is required. Just show up and join the celebration!
  • Senate Service Reception. The Academic Senate will be hosting our annual Senate Service Reception on Monday, February 24 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Faculty Club. We will be honoring this year’s recipients of the Donald F. Tuzin Distinguished Service Award, Professor Pamela Cosman (Electrical and Computer Engineering) and Professor Karen Pierce (Neurosciences) and celebrating Senate members’ service contributions. A formal announcement about the event will be sent soon.

We hope you will engage with the Academic Senate this quarter and visit the Senate website (senate.ucsd.edu) for information about the work performed by Senate committees and issues under review. We are at your service and welcome your comments and suggestions.

Sincerely,
