Academic Senate: Where CAP Stood, 2024-2025

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to announce the release of the “Where CAP Stood, 2024-2025” report, which serves as a comprehensive summary of the key issues and topics that engaged the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP) during the academic year 2024-2025. The report is now available on the Academic Senate’s website. Please use the link below to access the report directly:

https://senate.ucsd.edu/media/737545/where-cap-stood-2024-25final.pdf

The goal of the report is to provide an accounting of CAP’s standards and practices, identify problematic file preparation areas, and promote a better understanding of the rationale behind CAP recommendations. This year, the report is divided into two sections: the primary document, which addresses the most significant issues encountered by CAP during the academic year, and an appendix, which includes much of the same file preparation guidance as previous iterations of “Where CAP Stood”. CAP has consistently shared this annual report on its website for more than a decade, and before that, copies were disseminated via hard copy, establishing a tradition of transparency and accountability in CAP’s decision-making processes.

We trust that this publication will be of particular interest and utility to department chairs, faculty members, and staff who are actively engaged in the academic review process. CAP hopes that the report will provide valuable insights that will aid in the preparation of future files.

Comments in response to the report may be submitted to CAP via the following email address: CAP@ucsd.edu.

Sincerely,

Lynn Russell
CAP Chair, 2024-2025
