We are pleased to announce that Stacey Brydges, professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has been appointed as Acting Associate Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE), effective retroactive September 1, 2025. She will serve in this role until June 30, 2026.
In this role, Brydges will advise the Dean of DUE on the development and management of key initiatives and programs, support academic departments in program reviews and assessment cycles, and contribute to the assessment of the division’s units, including Academic Integrity and the Office for Students with Disabilities. She will also oversee WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) substantive change screenings, and work with campus units on the WSCUC substantive change proposals. Additionally, she may represent the dean on various committees and workgroups at the campus, system-wide, and national levels, and serve as acting dean in the dean’s absence.
Professor Brydges is well prepared to serve as a key member of the Division of Undergraduate Education. She has devoted more than two decades to advancing access, engagement, and persistence in the sciences and higher education. She has also been a strong advocate for undergraduate and graduate students, research opportunities for transfer students, and faculty professional development, and is a past recipient of the UC San Diego Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award. Brydges is also an affiliate faculty member of the Joint Doctoral Program in Mathematics and Science Education with San Diego State University and the Director of Education and Outreach for UC San Diego’s Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC). She has previously served as Vice Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty Equity Advisor for the School of Physical Sciences, and Chair of the UC San Diego Academic Senate Undergraduate Council.
