The Office of Research and Innovation invites comments on proposed revisions to the Policy on Research Misconduct (Fabrication, Falsification, and Plagiarism).
The policy revisions are to align with updated regulations (42 CFR Part 93) on research misconduct, applicable January 1, 2026.
The proposed policy can be found here. The key changes include separating the roles of the Deciding Official (DO) and Research Integrity Officer (RIO), with the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation serving as the DO and the Director of Research Integrity and Oversight as the RIO. The Inquiry process may now be conducted by the RIO or a designee, supported by a Standing Committee of faculty members who may serve on Inquiry or Investigation Committees as needed. Timeframes have also been extended, and definitions have been updated to align with the revised regulations.
If you have comments for submission in response to the policy review, please provide your written comments to Paula Johnson in Information Governance and Policy at policy@ucsd.edu no later than December 17, 2025.
