The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for a portion of Southwest California including San Diego County coastal, mountains and valleys. The flood watch is in effect from 10:00 pm March 12 through 6:00 pm March 13. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood prone areas.
Avoid floodwaters: It is never safe to drive or walk through them. Just six inches of moving water and one foot of water can sweep a vehicle away. You may not know the depth of the water or the condition of the road or ground underneath.
Slow down and increase driving distance between cars: Wet roads mean less grip. Increase your following distance to allow for safe stopping. Strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
The NWS has also issued a wind advisory from 12:00 pm through 8:00 pm March 13.
