Project Location/Description:
This utility undergrounding project at the Hillcrest Medical Center includes the installation of new underground infrastructure for SDGE electrical and COX/ATT communications cabling, which will be removed from overhead power poles and installed below grade. After the underground work is complete, these agencies (SDGE, COX, and ATT) will perform the work to make the final connections and remove the overhead wires and poles. The project will include repairs to all street paving and concrete curb/getter/sidewalks that are damaged during the course of construction.
Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:
There will be intermittent lane closures on First Ave, Arbor Dr, Front St, and Montecito Way from March 2025 through Fall 2025, but vehicular access will be maintained at all times. Health staff are encouraged to access the First Ave Parking Structure via Lewis Street and South Bachman per the associated map and detour signage on site. There will be intermittent sidewalk closures, during which pedestrians will be detoured to the nearest sidewalk. City street parking will also be intermittently closed to accommodate construction activities.
