Timely Warning – Possible Person with a Weapon |
On 04/10/2025 at 1:20 PM, the UC San Diego Police Department Dispatchers heard San Diego Police Officers responding to a call of person with a possible gun. The male was last seen on La Jolla Village Drive at the I-5 at 1:20 PM. The reporting party stated that a male had a "gun" and then ran into a nearby canyon for unknown reasons. The male was thought to be in the canyon area along the I-5, west of One Miramar. UC San Diego Police Officers are responding to the area and assisting with the search.

- The suspect is described by reporting party as a male approximately six feet tall and thin build.. He was wearing a long sleeve black hoodie with gray and white plaid pants and black shoes.
- At this time, the suspect is not in custody.
- The report is currently under investigation by the San Diego Police Department.

Report suspicious activity immediately to the UC San Diego Police Department by calling or texting 9-1-1.
- Your safety is most important. If you are confronted with someone who says they have a gun, knife or other weapon, believe them.
- Try to maintain a calm demeanor. Don’t make sudden moves or try to apprehend the criminal yourself.

Use the UC San Diego Safety Escort Program. Call (858) 534-WALK, available daily from dusk to dawn.
- Whenever possible, travel well-lit, busy routes. Avoid walking or parking in shadowed areas. Have your keys in your hand as you approach your door.
- Know the location of Campus Emergency Telephones on routes to and from campus destinations.
