UPDATED CONSTRUCTION ALERT - SIO Automatic Load Shed System

***Update: Extended impact area and new duration of closure time.

Project Purpose: Trenching and installation of underground electrical duct bank. The project will enable communications between the SIO and Revelle Switching Stations to improve data and network connectivity in the campus power system.

Location and Duration: Construction will start on SIO Automatic Load Shed System on May 8th. Downwind Way, from intersection with Expedition Way down to La Jolla Shores. This new impacted area will cover from Revelle College down to Downwind Way/SIO. Project completion is anticipated to be May 22nd, 2025.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

  • One lane of Downwind Way will be closed from 6:30am – 3:30pm with traffic control.
  • Downwind Way will be completely closed on weekends and from 3:30pm – 6:30am weekdays with Detour Signs and Direction.
  • Campus Shuttle will be on detour the entire time.
  • The area from Revelle College to Downwind Way/SIO will have delays with traffic control.

Please observe all temporary traffic controls and crewmember instructions. Please reduce speeds and allow extra space when traveling adjacent to construction activity. See a map of the affected area.
