This week, the federal government began issuing numerous terminations of student visas for international students across the country. Yesterday, without warning, we received notification that five UC San Diego students had their F-1 visas terminated. The federal government has not explained the reasons behind these terminations. The students have been notified, and we are working directly with them to provide support. In addition, this week, one UC San Diego student was detained at the border, denied entry and deported to their home country.
We recognize that recent federal immigration actions, whether occurring locally, within the UC system, or across the country, are distressing for many in our campus community. We reiterate our strong support for our valued Triton international students and everyone in our Triton community. UC San Diego is enriched by the contributions of our international students, and we are proud to be a destination for the brightest minds from all over the world.
We encourage international students to engage with the International Services and Engagement Office (ISEO) and visit the ISEO Immigration Policy Updates page for current information. This University of California FAQ provides additional information and guidance. We also encourage everyone to review the University of California’s “Know Your Rights” card, which provides an overview of legal protections to keep in mind if interacting with law enforcement.
As we continue to monitor and respond to various federal actions, our highest priority is the success and well-being of all members of our Triton community. We are here to support you.
