Dear Colleagues:
In the sixty-five years since its founding, the UC San Diego Academic Senate has played a vital role in the governance of our university. Particularly during this time of uncertainty, it is critical that faculty exercise their voice and affirm their commitment to shared governance. This begins by participating in the Senate election.
If you have not yet voted, please do so before the election closes at 4:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 14, 2025). If you have already voted, thank you!
A reference ballot and bios for the candidates are posted on the following webpage:

All voting is electronic. Please use the following link to vote:

The elected positions on the ballot for Vice Chair/Chair Designate, Divisional Representative to the systemwide Assembly of the Academic Senate, and Committee on Committees play a key role on campus and systemwide. The Senate Chair leads the Senate Council and Representative Assembly and, together with the Divisional Representatives, ensures a faculty voice in campus and systemwide decisions. The Committee on Committees shapes our campus voice by appointing Senate members to Senate committees and nominating members for a wide array of search, review, and other administrative committees.
Our campus has significantly grown since 1960, and not all faculty will know everyone who is on the ballot. The voting reference page and the ballot itself includes a bio for each candidate. You may also be receiving messages directly from candidates encouraging you to vote for them. There is nothing in the Senate rules against campaigning, and some candidates have acted of their own accord to do so. The Academic Senate has not provided any assistance or access to mailing lists for the distribution of messages advocating for any specific candidate. I encourage you to participate in this democratic process and to vote your conscience.
Sincerely,
