June 10, 2025 Special Representative Assembly Meeting/UC Webinar on EDR

Dear Colleagues:

The Academic Senate received a request on May 24 from the requisite number of Senate faculty colleagues to hold a special Representative Assembly meeting to discuss cybersecurity and consider a resolution titled, Resolution to halt invasive monitoring of campus computer systems. This special meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10 at 3:30 p.m., in the Garren Auditorium of the Biomedical Sciences Building (1st floor). It was also announced on May 30 that UC is hosting a webinar on Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) on that same day, from noon to 1 p.m. (additional information below). All Senate members are welcome to attend both events.

If you are a Senate member who is not an Assembly Representative and you plan to attend the Representative Assembly meeting, please RSVP to the Academic Senate Office at academicsenateoffice@ucsd.edu. We ask meeting participants to arrive by 3:15 so we may begin promptly at 3:30. Representative Assembly meeting participation is limited to Senate members and invited guests.

The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents are available on the following webpages.

  1. On the Senate’s homepage under Assembly/Council Meetings, on the lower right side of the page.  http://senate.ucsd.edu
  2. On the Representative Assembly-Schedule page.

I ask that you please review the materials in advance of the meeting and send questions to academicsenateoffice@ucsd.edu by noon on Friday, June 6.

Primary Representatives and Alternate Representatives should coordinate their attendance and voting for this meeting. Both may attend; however, Alternate Representatives may only vote in the absence of the Primary Representative. Please coordinate who will attend and cast votes, in advance of the meeting.

UC Webinar on Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), June 10, Noon to 1 p.m.
Van Williams, UC Vice President of Information Technology, will be hosting a systemwide informational session on EDR from noon to 1 p.m. on June 10. This session will address questions and concerns related to EDR implementation, particularly as they relate to academic work and privacy.

More information about the event is posted on the San Diego Senate’s webpage. This session will be recorded. Please register to attend and/or receive the recording: Webinar Registration - Zoom. Contact Kate Miffitt, Chief Digital Experience & Engagement Officer for questions about the webinar: kate.miffitt@ucop.edu.

Your participation matters. I look forward to seeing you at Representative Assembly on June 10 and encourage you to attend the UC webinar.

Sincerely,
