Retirement of Summer Session Director Becky Arce

After 45 years of dedicated service to the UC system, including 43 years working with Summer Session and more than 27 years at UC San Diego, Director of Summer Session Becky Arce will be retiring from UC San Diego, effective September 19, 2025 – the final day of Summer Session 2025.

Arce began her career in the Registrar’s Office at UCLA in 1976 and was recruited by UCLA’s Summer Session two years later. She joined UC San Diego in 1998. During her time at UC San Diego, Arce has been a tremendous leader of Summer Session. Through her collaborations with academic departments, faculty, and staff across campus, Arce grew Summer Session enrollment to more than 34,000, making a significant impact on student success and time to degree at UC San Diego. She is known for her collaborative approach and her passion for ensuring that Summer Session meets the needs of all stakeholders.

Arce’s vision has always been for UC San Diego to provide a thriving summer environment for students that helps them achieve both their academic and personal goals. As we continue toward this vision, Associate Director of Summer Session Lisa Bargabus will work jointly with Director of Summer Planning Rocco Fragomeni to continue to support and grow Summer Session and coordinate the larger landscape of summer programs at UC San Diego, respectively.

Please join me in thanking Becky Arce for her years of dedicated service to UC San Diego and our students. We wish her the best in her retirement.
