CONSTRUCTION ALERT – 5636 RIMAC Expansion & Renovation

Construction staging for the project will occur on an existing concrete hardscape located to the west and southwest of RIMAC. A temporary construction fence will enclose the site, including the existing outdoor plaza space and extending to the access road on the south. A small landscaped area along the west side of Ridge Walk, across from the existing plaza, will be under renovation during the early phase of construction. It is anticipated that Ridge Walk will remain accessible throughout the duration of the project.

Project Location/Description:
This project will expand and renovate existing space at the Recreational and Intramural Athletic Complex (RIMAC). The 2-story expansion, an addition at the northwest corner of the building, will add top rope climbing, bouldering, weight and fitness areas, improved entry and circulation, multi-purpose studio, training lab, rejuvenation spaces, as well as transforming the existing outdoor areas into purposeful fitness and social spaces to meet ongoing demands and enhance the student experience. Project construction is expected to start on August 25th 2025 and anticipated completion date is December 2026.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:
Four ADA parking spaces in parking lot P354 to the south of RIMAC will not be accessible for the entirety of the project, as well as pedestrian access to the fire lane to the south of RIMAC and LionTree Arena.

As part of the project, the bike racks at the southwest edge of RIMAC will be relocated. While this area is under construction, temporary bike parking will be provided on the west side of Ridge Walk at two locations: just south across from the SDSC building and to the north across from the RIMAC Annex.

We greatly appreciate your patience as we work with our agency partners to facilitate these access, circulation, and infrastructure improvements.
