Fall 2025 Transportation Updates and Rate Changes Effective October

As we begin the fall quarter, Parking and Commuter Services would like to share important updates about campus parking, transit and mobility. Our goal is to make commuting to, from and around UC San Diego easier, safer and more sustainable.

Parking Space Reallocation (Central Campus)

To improve circulation within parking structures, reduce space search time and facilitate expansion of EV charging for A and B permit holders, Parking and Commuter Services is updating parking allocations on the west side of the Central Campus

Key Updates:

  • Scholars Parking Structure: EV chargers are being installed on the top floor; Two-person carpool spaces have been removed and replaced with visitor spaces.
  • Lot P303: A spaces have been moved into the Scholars Parking Structure; Lot P303 has been converted to B spaces.
  • Lot P304: S spaces have been relocated to the Pangea Parking Structure; Lot P304 is now fully B spaces.
  • Pangea Parking Structure: A and B spaces have been reduced to consolidate all student commuter parking at this location.
  • Hopkins Parking Structure: Student commuter spaces are being shifted to Pangea Parking Structure with an increase in B spaces in Hopkins Parking Structure.

These changes will better align parking supply with demand, improve traffic flow and expand EV access across campus.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Expansion

UC San Diego successfully secured a grant that will fund more than 600 new EV charging stations across the La Jolla campus and health facilities. Installation is underway in several locations with the most significant activity currently in the Scholars Parking Structure. Stations will be opened over the next nine months as demand continues to grow. In the meantime, permits are valid at bagged charging stations with no charging required. If you’re interested in making the EV transition, there’s less than two weeks left to secure a federal tax incentive on lease or purchase of a new EV or purchase of a used EV. Learn more in our EV Resource Center.

Parking Rate Changes Effective October 1, 2025

Beginning October 1, 2025, parking rates will increase for those not covered by bargaining agreements that are in status quo (i.e. working under lapsed contracts). Represented employees in status quo—including SX/EX (AFSCME), HX/RX/TX (UPTE), SV (UAW), and M6 (Housestaff Association)—will remain at their current rates until a contract is settled or extended.

We recognize that any increase can feel significant and we work hard to keep parking as affordable as possible. These modest adjustments help fund new facilities, maintain infrastructure, and manage rising costs.

ParkMobile daily zones will also adjust to reflect the new daily rates; however, due to technical issues with ParkMobile, the historic rates for units that are in status quo are only available through the Parking Portal. Purchase in advance from a computer or on the go using your handheld device. You may wish to add a link to your mobile device home screen for ease of use. Employees are also able to utilize public parking products and may find savings with Discount and Supersaver permits. Learn more.

For employees using payroll deduction, the new rates will be reflected automatically. Monthly paid employees will see the change on their October 1, 2025, paycheck, while biweekly paid employees will see it beginning with their October 8, 2025, paycheck. See new rates.

Additional Reminders

Transit: FaSt Pass provides unlimited access to regional transit systems for a flat monthly fee, offering flexibility and value for employees and affiliates who rely on public transportation. Rates are 25% below retail and pretax payroll deduction can add additional savings. Learn more.

Micromobility: If you ride a personal bike or scooter to or around campus, please note that registration is both free and required. Protect your investment – register your ride today. Claim vouchers for high-quality helmets and U-locks at up to 85% off and $10 Tile Tracker to assist with device recovery in the event of theft at the “Get Permits” link in the Parking Portal.  Transportation Services and UC San Diego also partner with Spin to provide shared e-scooters and e-bikes. We appreciate your support as we continue to expand sustainable transportation options and balance parking access across campus. Thank you for your partnership in keeping UC San Diego moving forward.
