Applications and Nominations Open: Director Search for the Center for Memory and Recording Research

A search is underway for the next Director of the Center for Memory and Recording Research (CMRR), an Organized Research Unit (ORU) at UC San Diego. The Director will report to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. CMMR was established at UC San Diego in 1983 to advance the state of the art in information storage technology and continues to be a significant influence in memory and storage research.

Responsibilities of the Director include:

  • Provide intellectual leadership and direction for the Center’s research, educational, and campus-wide service activities.
  • Oversee administrative and managerial requirements of the Center.
  • Promote the Center's scholarly activities at UC San Diego.

Qualifications required for the position include:

  • A strong record of research and teaching in research areas relevant to the Center’s mission.
  • A record of activity associated with CMRR.
  • Demonstrated contributions to the campus community, including efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, and alignment with the UC San Diego Principles of Community.
  • Demonstrated record of interdisciplinary research and collaborative research with industry.

Eligibility is limited to tenured faculty at UC San Diego. The initial appointment is expected to be for a four-year term from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2030.

The search committee consists of Raymond De Callafon (Professor, MAE), Shadi Dayeh (Professor, ECE), and Brian Maple (Professor Emeritus, Physics).
