Sustaining Focus and Stability as We Prepare for the Triton Student System Launch
|
As we enter the critical months leading up to the launch of the new Triton Student System (TSS), we ask for your continued partnership in supporting the successful implementation.
The imminent move to the TSS is essential, as our current student information system (ISIS) is at end-of-life, becoming increasingly costly to maintain, and unable to meet evolving compliance, security, and reporting requirements. The TSS will replace ISIS, becoming the system that stores students’ academic records and allows them to register for classes, pay their bills, and check their grades, among many other functionalities.
The initial release of the TSS in July 2026 will deliver a basic, mission-critical set of capabilities required to support core university functions. Not all desired features, refinements, or efficiencies will be available immediately when the TSS launches, and some processes may initially feel more manual or less streamlined than expected. We anticipate that the rollout will require adjustment and problem-solving as the system is used at scale; dedicated support and issue-resolution processes will be in place to help address challenges as they arise. Given the university’s financial constraints and the ambitious timeline, our shared goal for this initial release is functional stability and institutional readiness. In line with UC San Diego’s ethos of continuous improvement, we will implement updates and refinements once the initial TSS implementation is stable.
We extend our sincere thanks to the functional and technical teams working tirelessly to deliver this system. To maintain momentum and reduce disruptions, we ask for your partnership in two key areas:
|
-
Minimize Process and Policy Changes:
From this point forward, please defer any non-essential changes to policies, business processes, or data management practices that intersect with student, curricular, or academic administrative functions until after the TSS launches in July 2026. Stabilizing our processes, policies, and data now is critical to avoid disruptions in system configuration, testing, and training activities that are already underway. We will keep a list of desired future updates and start working our way through it once the new system is stable.
- Protect Key Project Team Members:
Many of our most knowledgeable subject matter experts, both functional and technical, are fully engaged in TSS readiness activities, and we are incredibly grateful for their invaluable contributions. To preserve their focus during this critical period, please do not assign TSS Project Implementation Team members to additional initiatives (such as system upgrades, new integrations, or business process changes) until after the TSS launches. Routine operational support should continue as normal. However, any critical needs outside of the TSS that require involvement from the TSS Project Implementation Team should be routed through Erin Kilburn, ESR Director, ekilburn@ucsd.edu and Christine Alvarado, Interim Associate Vice Chancellor of Educational Innovation, cjalvarado@ucsd.edu for review and prioritization.
|
Your support in maintaining stable operations and safeguarding project resources will directly contribute to a successful and on-schedule implementation. Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to this important work. Please share this message widely within your respective areas.
Sincerely,
|
