This year marks the 25th year of UC San Diego’s celebration of the life, legacy and achievements of César E. Chávez. A community organizer and civil rights and labor activist, Chávez championed the rights of farm workers and their civil liberties.

All are invited to join in a month-long celebration featuring numerous free programs commemorating 25 years of honoring Chávez’s legacy at UC San Diego.

Chávez's achievements, raise awareness about the struggle for equal rights, and highlight our campus’s commitment to equity, service and community engagement. Chávez Celebration Month Kickoff and Keynote Speaker: Alberto Pulido

The signature kickoff event will feature keynote speaker Alberto Pulido, professor and founding chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of San Diego. Inspired by many community and family voices, his passion for knowledge and truth rooted in community and life experience, has led to Pulido’s involvement with several community organizations, including the Chicano Park Steering Committee.

The UC San Diego César E. Chávez Celebration Month Kickoff is on Thursday, April 2, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Price Center West Ballroom.

Administrative Leave with Pay

In recognition of César E. Chávez Celebration Month, two hours of administrative leave with pay have been approved for employees to attend a UC San Diego César E. Chávez Celebration Month activity. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.
