Notification of the Five-Year Administrative Review of the Dean of the School of Global Policy and Strategy

Dear Colleague,

We have been appointed as a committee by Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth H. Simmons to conduct a five-year review, in accordance with university policy, of Caroline Freund’s performance in her administrative role as Dean. Evaluating the performance of Caroline Freund in the following areas of decanal responsibility:

Creating, articulating, and implementing a vision for the school that is aligned with the university’s strategic plan
Promoting an environment where diversity of thought, experiences, and inspiration is welcomed and fostered
Promoting an environment in which the highest standards of ethical conduct are understood to be a primary responsibility of all members of the School of Global Policy & Strategy
Faculty recruitment, mentoring, and retention enhancing the profile, diversity, visibility, and prestige of the school; reduction of equity gaps for faculty
Student recruitment, experience, retention and success at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including improvement of graduation rates and reduction of equity gaps
Staff recruitment, training, mentoring, and retention for effective and efficient operation
Strengthening the educational mission and attainment of the school, including development and oversight of academic programs and promotion of academic innovation
Strengthening the research mission and attainment of the school, including through enhanced grant funding, more interdisciplinary research, formation of sizeable new research centers, and improvement in national rankings
Cultivates partnerships with other schools, departments, and institutes across the university in developing opportunities for interdisciplinary programs and initiatives;
Acquisition of external resources including through fundraising, industry partnerships, and self-supporting programs
Alumni engagement
Stewardship of personnel, space and financial resources
Organizational efficiency and change management
Promotion of morale, community, and sense of collective purpose
Contributions to the larger campus community and effectiveness as a campus leader
