UC San Diego is aware of the disturbing allegations recently made against César Chávez.
In light of these allegations, UC San Diego’s César E. Chávez Celebration Month Committee has cancelled its signature kickoff event, originally scheduled for April 2, 2026. The University remains committed to honoring the legacy of the farmworker rights movement. Recognition of scholarship award recipients will take place at a later date and all events aligned with César E. Chávez Celebration Month will be reevaluated.
The healing and safety of survivors is of the utmost importance to us. During April, the University recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), and an upcoming campus notice will share more about events and workshops where all Tritons can participate in creating a campus community free of sexual violence.
Anyone who has been impacted by sexual assault, relationship violence or stalking and the news related to the cancellation of this event can reach out to CARE at the Sexual Assault Resource Center for free and confidential support at careadvocate@ucsd.edu or through their 24/7 help line at (858) 534-5793. UC San Diego’s Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination is also available to provide information about your rights and reporting options at ophd@ucsd.edu or ReportBias.ucsd.edu.
We thank the César E. Chávez Celebration Month Committee for their service to UC San Diego and commitment to uplifting the labor movement in the United States.
