I am pleased to announce that Stacey Brydges, who is currently serving as Acting Associate Dean for the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) and professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been selected to serve at Interim Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education, effective July 1, 2026, upon the retirement of Dean John Moore. She will serve in this role until a permanent DUE is appointed; the DUE search will proceed in the fall.
In this role, Brydges will be responsible for providing academic leadership in the development, enhancement, and delivery of undergraduate academic programs, including interdisciplinary programs across colleges, divisions, schools, and disciplines. As dean, she will also promote curriculum innovation and reform and strengthen academic support services for undergraduate students. Additionally, Brydges will serve on key committees and workgroups at the campus, system-wide, and national levels.
Professor Brydges is well prepared for the interim dean role. In addition to serving as Acting Associate Dean, she has devoted more than two decades to advancing access, engagement, and persistence in the sciences and higher education. As an educator and researcher, she has been a strong advocate for undergraduate and graduate students and driver of curriculum reform and scholarly teaching, early research opportunities – particularly for transfer students, and current and future faculty professional development, and is a past recipient of the UC San Diego Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award. She has previously served as Vice Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty Equity Advisor for the School of Physical Sciences, and Chair of the UC San Diego Academic Senate Undergraduate Council.
Please join us in commending Stacey Brydges for taking on this new leadership role and thank her for her continued service to UC San Diego and our students.
