In accordance with University of California Regents Policy 7702 requiring a Leadership Development Assessment on members of the Senior Management Group every five years, I am formally initiating a five-year review of Ann Spira, Vice Chancellor for Advancement. The purpose of this assessment is to provide the Senior Management Group (SMG) member with feedback from a broader perspective than is usual with an annual performance evaluation.

I have appointed a committee to conduct a review of Vice Chancellor Spira’s performance and to provide me with a report of areas of strength and opportunities for improvement. The review committee members are:

The charge to the committee is to evaluate VC Spira’s performance in a full spectrum of leadership responsibilities for Vice Chancellor for Advancement, including the following areas: strategic leadership and oversight of Advancement fundraising, operations and campaigns; management of Advancement services such as gift acceptance, processing, accounting and stewardship functions; leadership of Alumni Services, Central Advancement, Health Sciences Advancement, Leadership and Strategy Engagement (LSE) and University Development; and performance in the role of Executive Vice President of the UC San Diego Foundation, including stewardship of Foundation assets and coordination with the Board of Trustees.

The review committee will solicit comments from individuals who have direct and specific knowledge of her performance and contributions while striving to ensure confidentiality of all respondents. Review Chair Satterlund is also accepting comments at vcadvreview@ucsd.edu. All comments are due by June 22, 2026.
