INSTRUCTORS OF RECORD AND CAMPUS LEADERSHIP

Canvas Disruption

Colleagues,

As we have already shared via Campus Notice, the Canvas learning system has been disrupted on our campus and thousands of other campuses across the country. Our campus IT team is currently working to address these issues along with their colleagues across the UC. However, it is anticipated that these challenges will likely persist for more than a few days. In the meantime, we would like to share with you the following information:

What you can do now:

  • Decide how you would like to handle distributing class content and collecting any assignments from your students during this time. A list has been provided ofEducational Continuity Resources that can serve as alternatives during this situation.
  • Message your students with next steps on how you will share class materials, assignments, etc. The Educational Continuity resources linked above provide guidance on using Google Workspace for Education, and other available tools to continue instruction.
  • At minimum, please give guidance to your students on how they should contact you without having access to Canvas. You can download a list of your current class rosters and those students’ email addresses from the Class Lists link on the Faculty Resources Blink page.

More information soon:

  • Information Technology Services (ITS) is currently assessing what content, such as previously assigned grades and other materials from Canvas that can be provided to instructors. As soon as we have more information on these topics, we will provide that information to you.

The campus will continue to provide updates on the Key Issues page for the Canvas Compromise. We understand the significant challenges presented by this current situation and we deeply appreciate your patience and resilience as we navigate these circumstances.

Best regards,

Elizabeth H. Simmons
