I am pleased to announce that Robert E. Continetti has been named to serve as the Interim Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (IEVC-AA), effective July 1, 2026. Continetti, who has been Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (SAVC-AA) since 2018, will serve in the IEVC-AA role until a permanent Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is chosen.
In this role, Continetti will be responsible for policies and decisions relating to all academic programs and curriculum, instructional support programs, and faculty appointments and performance. As a Cabinet member and direct report to the Chancellor, the IEVC-AA will also be a key partner in executing UC San Diego’s Strategic Plan and shaping the future of our institution.
In addition to serving as SAVC-AA for the past eight years, Continetti is also a Distinguished Chair in Physical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at UC San Diego. As an experimental physical chemist, IEVC-AA Continetti's research interests focus on the studies of the reaction dynamics of isolated molecules, clusters and nanoparticles.
He is an elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). His research and teaching efforts have been recognized with numerous awards including a Camille Dreyfus New Faculty Award, a Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering, a Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship and an Earl Warren College Teaching Award. IEVC-AA Continetti also received the American Chemical Society Physical Chemistry Division Award in Experimental Chemistry and a UC San Diego Diversity Champion Award.
