Earlier this week, Chancellor Khosla announced the 2020-21 Exemplary Staff Employee of the Year Award recipients. Our fifteen honorees represent an impressive breadth of roles on campus and at UC San Diego Health. Their work is vital in advancing our vision to be a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public university.
The Exemplary Staff Employee of the Year recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by a nomination committee for their exceptional contributions to UC San Diego and our surrounding communities. Criteria for this prestigious honor includes innovation and proactive leadership, relationship building and collaboration, and bringing about significant positive change in support of the university’s mission.

Staff Town Hall: Our monthly Staff Town Hall is coming up next week on Tuesday, July 20 from 2 - 3 p.m. This month’s town hall will feature an update from University Librarian Erik Mitchell about Geisel Library’s reopening plans. We’ll also have a panel of health and campus experts on hand to answer your questions about COVID-19, vaccines, returning to campus and other timely topics. Register and submit your questions today »
Required - Work Location Status Form: As staff re-establish on-site, hybrid and remote work arrangements, it’s important for UC San Diego to maintain an accurate database of when and where employees conduct their on-site work. This information is critical for space planning, regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness.
STAR Awards: At our last Staff Town Hall, I shared that we will implement our STAR (Staff Appreciation and Recognition) Plan at UC San Diego for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. The STAR awards program is a tool to recognize exceptional contributions among policy-covered and Clerical Unit (CX) staff employees.
General Increase for Policy-Covered Staff: In May, Chancellor Khosla announced a 3% general salary increase for policy-covered (non-represented) staff at UC San Diego. The effective date of the increase is July 1, 2021 for monthly paid employees and June 27, 2021 for biweekly paid employees. The increase will appear on the July 30, 2021 monthly paycheck and on the July 21, 2021 biweekly paycheck.
Wage Implementation Schedule for Represented Staff: Represented staff, if applicable, will receive scheduled increases and lump sum payments in accordance with their associated collective bargaining agreements. View the wage implementation schedule »
2021-2022 Staff Association Executive Board
The UC San Diego Staff Association conducted elections earlier this summer and I’m pleased to congratulate the new members of the 2021-2022 Staff Association Executive Board. This group of leaders takes an active role in advocating for staff and creating opportunities for professional development and networking.
I’m confident that under the leadership of Chair Jen Bowser and Chair-Elect Chuck Stanley, the Staff Association will continue to build on its strong foundation in the coming year. I also want to acknowledge and thank outgoing chair Bryce Besser for his leadership and strong support of the staff community over the past year.
