Have you checked out the results of the 2021 Staff@Work Survey yet? Each year this survey invites UC San Diego staff to share their thoughts, feedback and suggestions about the workplace. This survey was the first of its kind in the UC system. It’s a valuable tool for leaders at UC San Diego to identify opportunities to strengthen our workplace and employee experience. At our most recent Staff Town Hall, I had the opportunity to recognize and congratulate a group of 27 staff members who were recognized, by name, at least five times in the 2021 Staff@Work Survey for their exceptional work and contributions to a positive work environment. You can see this list of these staff colleagues, including highlights of their recognition, here. Thank you to everyone who took the time to take this survey, share your insight and recognize your colleagues. Read on to learn about additional opportunities to recognize staff colleagues, along with other important information and updates for staff.
Campus Health and Safety Guidelines
Vaccine Booster Requirement: As a reminder, the deadline for campus community members to get a COVID-19 booster was January 31, 2022, or within 30 days of when you become eligible to receive a vaccine booster. Please note that the booster requirement is built into the University of California Vaccination Policy. If you have an exception to the vaccine requirement, you do not need to request an additional exception for the booster. Visit the Return to Learn website for more information about vaccine compliance and submitting documentation for proof of vaccination.
New COVID Leave Allotment: The UC Office of the President has granted an additional allotment of up to 80 hours of Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) for 2022. This additional allotment of EPSL is available for immediate use effective February 19, 2022, through September 30, 2022. Employees who took leave between January 1, 2022, and February 18, 2022, for one or more qualifying reasons related to COVID-19, may request 2022 EPSL retroactively. Learn more about eligibility for 2022 EPSL. Flexible Work Arrangement Policy UC San Diego’s Flexible Work Arrangements Policy has been approved and issued. Last June, the proposed policy was distributed for comment. We reviewed the comments and added clarification where appropriate. As we look toward the future, the goal is to foster a work environment that maximizes flexibility while ensuring we maintain a vibrant University experience for staff, students, academic appointees and visitors. Additional information, related documents and forms for Flexible Work Arrangements for campus employees at UC San Diego can be found on the Flexible Work Arrangements page. This policy applies to staff employees (career, contract, limited, floater, partial year career, per diem and casual/restricted student appointments). If you have any questions, please contact hr@ucsd.edu or your department HR contact. Get Involved in our Campus Community Triton Treats - Pie & Cold Brew: Join the Staff Association on Monday, March 14 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. on Sun God Lawn for bite-size pie and cold brew to celebrate Pi Day (3.14). Triton Treats is a series of events hosted by the Staff Association to recognize and bring together UC San Diego’s vibrant staff community. Bring your staff ID card and grab an afternoon treat while supplies last. Staff Town Hall: Our next Staff Town Hall is coming up on Wednesday, March 23 from 2 - 3 p.m. This month’s Staff Town Hall will feature a spotlight on Staff Learning and Development, along with updates about campus health and safety guidelines. Register and submit your questions. Women’s Herstory Month: Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in UC San Diego's Women’s Herstory Month Celebration throughout March. This year’s theme is, “Our Stories Are Our Strength: Past, Present and Future.” Check out the slate of events on the Women’s Center website. Donations for Thrift Pop-Up: UC San Diego Recreation is currently accepting donations of gently used athletic apparel and shoes for UC San Diego students in need. This is a great opportunity to let go of any items collecting dust in your closet. Donations will be accepted inside RIMAC and Main Gym throughout the month of March in preparation for a Thrift Pop-Up Event. Staff Learning and Development Opportunities Get Inspired with the Learning Boost Series: Meet leaders, dreamers, innovators, and change champions throughout 2022 – one talk at a time. Join us for our next Learning Boost talk on Wednesday, March 23 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. with Shaun Travers, director of UC San Diego's LGBT Resource Center, focusing on “Talking About Race: Learn, Leverage, Learn with Cultural Competency”. Register for Learning Boost. Apply for the UC Women’s Initiative for Professional Development: The UC Women’s Initiative (UC WI) is a professional development program designed to help woman-identified professionals advance in their UC careers. Participants represent faculty, academic personnel and staff, people managers and non-people managers. The program is committed to enabling the full participation, success, and advancement of woman-identified professionals at the University, and all who support this mission are invited to apply. The application period for campus employees closes on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 12 p.m. Learn more about the UC Women’s Initiative for Professional Development. Sharing Staff Stories: The Staff Association Marketing and Communication committee is dedicated to telling staff stories and unlocking the authentic narratives of our dynamic community of UC San Diego staff. Through Shines and Shout Outs, you can give a shout out to a colleague, your team or even yourself about the ways you and your colleagues contribute to the staff experience at our university. The Staff Association will spotlight these stories in upcoming newsletters, Staff Town Halls, social media and other communications. Submit a story via the Shines and Shout Outs form.
