Updates from Human Resources | |
THANK YOU I cannot express enough gratitude for the creativity, hard work, compassion and care that Staff has demonstrated over the past two years. Staff are the backbone of and creators of many of UC San Diego’s innovations in response to COVID. I see you. We in Campus HR see you. UC San Diego leadership sees you. We appreciate everything you do on a daily basis. Your willingness to continue to tackle new (and old) challenges while also managing impacts in your personal lives is not taken for granted. You should be proud of your resilience, but do not forget to take the time to check in with yourself and your loved ones. I am honored to be your new CHRO and look forward to the great things we will continue to do together for each other and for UC San Diego.

News and Resources
Caregiver Resources Are you a caregiver or do you know a UC San Diego colleague with caregiving responsibilities? The UC and UC San Diego offer a number of resources to support caregiver needs. Get details about resources to help you manage.
2022-2023 Salary Increase for Policy-Covered Staff: Two weeks ago, Chancellor Pradeep Khosla announced a 4.5% general salary increase for policy-covered (non-represented) employees and 4% increase academic appointees at UC San Diego, as part of the 2022-2023 Salary Program contingent upon the 5 percent allocation currently in the State budget and is subject to change. Read the announcement to learn more » Represented staff increases are governed by their appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
Campus Safety Reminders: As was shared in last week’s Town Hall, we want to take this time to acknowledge the horrible events in Uvalde, Texas that occurred last week. Many of us are still reeling from the tragedies in Buffalo and Orange County, so this is another layer of sadness. Please take a moment, or many moments, to check in with yourself and allow yourself to feel whatever it is you are feeling. Take some time and check in with someone you know. Do not forget to tell loved ones, you love them, often. Remember, everyone processes information differently. Some people have to avoid these topics for their own well-being while others may be called to action. No response is better than the other, you must do what is best for you.
In light of these horrific events, following are Campus Safety resources and reminders:

On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines
Performance Appraisals: Performance appraisal season has arrived for all policy-covered campus staff employees and many represented employees. While this year’s proposed Salary Program is not based on merit, the importance of the annual performance review process should not be discounted. All employees should receive an annual performance review per policy.
Completion of mandatory and assigned trainings is a critical aspect of an employee’s performance. If an employee has not completed their assigned trainings, supervisors are expected to take this into consideration in the evaluation of an employee’s overall performance.
If you are unsure whether you have overdue trainings, go to the UC Learning Center and select Assigned Trainings to check your status. Supervisors can also check the completion status for assigned trainings of their employees by clicking on “My Team” and “Manager Dashboard” at the top left.
The review period covered is May 1, 2021, through April 30, 2022. The deadline to complete and submit performance appraisals is Wednesday, June 15, 2022 (for most units). Learn more about performance appraisals.
Vacation Maximum Accrual Extension Ending: As a reminder, the vacation accrual maximum in UC’s Absence from Work policy (PPSM-2.210), was temporarily lifted effective June 1, 2020, to allow policy-covered staff more time to use their accrued vacation leave to bring their accrual below the maximum. That temporary change was extended through June 30, 2022, by President Drake. Starting July 1, 2022, policy-covered staff who are over their maximum vacation leave accrual limit will no longer accrue additional vacation leave until they bring their vacation leave balance below their maximum. This change applies to policy-covered staff employees. Read the UC Net article describing the change.
Work Location Status Form: All UC San Diego employees, including campus and Health, are required to complete and submit the Work Location Status Form, providing information about your work schedule and location. It’s important for UC San Diego to maintain an accurate database of this information in support of space planning, regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness. Learn more and find step-by-step instructions on Blink.
