Visitor Parking and EV Charging Updates, 22–23 Academic Year
Visitor Parking
As campus prepares for fall quarter, Transportation Services is excited to welcome visitors back to campus event venues. We are looking forward to a busy year of campus tours, sporting events, music and art events, and many others. The Blue Line Trolley now connects UC San Diego to other communities in San Diego, which provides much easier access to all events.
Parking Services previously announced changes to Faculty, Staff and Student proximity parking rates necessary to offset rising operating costs. Rates for the D “Discount” permit and the Super Saver lots P782 and P386 were not increased to preserve low-cost options ($4/day and $3/day respectively).
Campus visitor rates will also increase, rising by $1/hr on September 12, the first increase since 2018. The daily maximum charge will be based on 8-hours (previously 10 hours). Half-price night and weekend parking and the first 30-minutes free program will be continued. Community members will also continue to have access to both D and SuperSaver parking through the ParkMobile app, allowing those who are willing to shuttle to their destination to park for as little as $3/day.
Visitor (V) Parking Rates (ParkMobile zone 4752)
30 minutes or less (no charge)
Each additional hour $4 (daily maximum $32)
Weekends and after 5 p.m. $2/hr (maximum $8)
Other Public Parking Options
D lots: $4/day (ParkMobile zone 4762)
Super Saver lots: $3/day (Parkmobile zone 4767)
Electric Vehicle Charging
Our utility rates have increased and, as a result, the cost of EV charging will increase effective October 1, 2022. However, students, faculty and staff will have access to new, discounted rates by participating in the UC San Diego EV Charging Club.
UC San Diego’s EV charging program is powered by 100% renewable energy and represents the largest charging hub in San Diego County. We ask that those charging on campus pay for the cost of electricity; however, 100% of capital and maintenance costs for level 2 charging and a majority of capital and maintenance costs for DC fast charging are funded by Parking Services and external grants rather than being passed on to EV drivers.
A minimum charge equivalent to 10kWh applies to all charging sessions.
During Flex Alerts, prices will double to reduce grid impacts; please charge before or after the Flex Alert. To receive email or text announcements about Flex Alerts, subscribe to updates from CAISO, the California Independent System Operator that coordinates the CA electrical grid.
During special promotional events, rates may be reduced by 50%. Examples included Clean Air Day, new charging plaza opening celebrations, etc. To receive alerts about special promotions subscribe to First to Know from Transportation Services.
