The Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (VCFA) reports to the Chancellor and is part of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and leadership team. The VCFA is the senior executive officer and chief financial officer for all of UC San Diego’s Campus and Health Sciences financial resources. The VCFA has overall managerial responsibility for the $9 billion annual budget of UC San Diego and is responsible for approximately 2,000 staff (FTE). The VCFA ensures that the University’s financial, residential, retail, supply chain, human and IT resources support institutional priorities. As Chief Financial Officer for UC San Diego including Health Sciences, the Vice Chancellor is responsible for creating and maintaining the control of funds flow between UC San Diego Health (Health System) and the Health Sciences professional schools.
Candidates must be highly qualified to lead UC San Diego vision and strategy in support of the university’s tripartite mission of excellence in education, research and clinical care, with an emphasis on building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive community. We are seeking an experienced administrator with demonstrated success at increasing levels of budgetary responsibility and administrative management, establishing collaborative initiatives from multiple departments, managing large and complex organizations, and leading strategic planning, budgeting and resource management initiatives and special projects for a large, public research university.
Through a series of listening sessions with various constituencies on campus, the search firm will develop a comprehensive position profile that includes challenges and opportunities for the next VCFA. The Search Advisory Committee will begin reviewing candidates soon after the position profile is developed and will continue until the position is filled.
Direct inquiries and nominations should be emailed to Thomas Lapierre (thomas.lapierre@opuspartners.net). You need not contact the nominee to ascertain if they are willing to be considered as a candidate. All nominees will be contacted in confidence by the search firm to discuss their willingness to have their names put forward to the search advisory committee.
